How to Ease Yeast Infection Itching
Candida albicans is one of the leading causes for a yeast infection; itching, redness, swelling and
general irritation are all calling cards of this uncomfortable condition that can occur to virtually anyone. Easing
the symptoms means not only relieving the itching that results but also eliminating the offensive yeast itself.
Male or female, adult or child; yeast infections are not
particular in choosing their victims. The culprit behind the ailment is generally candida albicans, but any of the
candidiasis will produce the telltale irritation of the fungus. These yeasts are always present in the human body
but the quantity of the candida yeasts are controlled by the body’s natural immune system when everything is
operating as it should be. From time to time, an imbalance is experienced that allows the growth the yeast to
expand beyond its safe limits, causing infection to develop.
When a yeast infection does occur, symptoms are felt quickly but will differ according to the type of body tissue
that is involved. When the infection affects the mouth, “thrush” is the name of the condition that causes white,
patchy areas that are painful. In the vagina, there is one symptom that is very common with a yeast infection:
itching. General irritation of the vaginal tissues will be present that will cause redness and swelling, along with
a white, curd-like discharge. If unprotected sex occurs while a vaginal infection is present, the infection can be
passed on to the male, as well.
There are topical solutions that can be applied to the genitals that will relieve the incessant itching, but it
will only be a temporary solution if the infection itself is not addressed. The overgrowth of the candida must be
halted and brought back into appropriate levels. Oral medications are often prescribed by doctors, and are
effective in treating the problem although it takes a few days for them to take effect. Men are able to apply an
antifungal crème to the affected areas and experience relief. A popular method for women to both treat the itching
and the high yeast population is to apply plain yogurt to the genital area. Live cultures of bacteria can soon
reduce the number of candida and thereby reduce itching as well. Honey is another natural method of treating the
infection; simply applied to the area for several minutes before showering away.
For any of the millions of people who have had a yeast infection, itching has to be the most irritating of all
symptoms. Easing the effects of the itching will do little good until the infection is eradicated and the body is
back in balance once again.
